My wife has never been big on Valentine's day and we differ on our approach to it. She thinks it's a scam. I also think it's a scam but I love giving gifts. And making her things. I started my present for her last week and it was down to the wire whether it'd get completed or not, but I had about two hours between me finishing work and her finishing work and managed to do the final stitches and get it (poorly) framed.
The pattern is 'Crows In Love' by Lola Crow Cross Stitch. It was fun! Markup R-XP said it took just under 11 hours.

This was my first time stitching on linen (Zweigart 28 count Cashel linen in 'Sapphire Green'), and I found it really interesting. Looking at linen I thought the slubs would be very very obtrusive while working on it, but it's surprising how easy they are to overlook when you're actually using it.
I used thread I had to hand rather than buying the DMC shades specifically for it. In hindsight the grey I chose for the crows' highlights are a little too light, and I wanted to use a metallic thread (because crows like shiny things) and found it just as annoying as everyone says it is. I remember reading a tip that pairing a strand with a plain floss makes it more manageable while giving a little sparkle, but I remembered that *after* I'd done all those gold hearts, so I never got a chance to test it out.
I gave her it with chocolate and a big bag of salt and vinegar crisps. :^)
Now this is completed my focus for the rest of February is going to be The Templar Prophecy, plus granny squares for an eventual blanket.
I originally had four days off now, but after adding up my hours and realising I'm slightly under contract I now have to make some hours up. ~_~ The plus side is that since it's working on care plans it can be done from home in my pyjamas.
